This site asks you for very little. There are no accounts, no sign-up and no advertising. This page says plainly what is kept and why.
What your browser remembers
So that the site behaves the way you left it, your browser remembers a few reading choices: light or dark mode, the size of the reading text, where the player sits, and which layer of a song you were reading. All of it stays in your browser and is never sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Visitor statistics
We use Google Analytics, through Google’s Site Kit plugin, to count visits. It tells us things like which songs are read most, roughly which country visitors come from, and whether they use a phone or a computer. To do this, Google places a small cookie in your browser. We only see totals, never who you are. We do not sell this information or use it for advertising.
You can block these cookies in your browser, or use Google’s opt-out add-on.
When you search
So that a search can understand what you meant, the words you type into the search box are sent to Google’s Gemini service. If Gemini cannot be reached, they may be sent to Groq instead, to correct the spelling. Only the words you typed are sent, and nothing that identifies you goes with them. If neither can be reached, search still works by matching letters.
When you leave a comment
A comment asks for your name and email address. Your name is shown with your comment; your email address is never shown. As on every WordPress site, your internet (IP) address and browser type are kept with the comment, to help stop spam. Spam is caught by the Antispam Bee plugin on our own server, so your comment is not sent anywhere else. Comments appear straight away, and anything unsuitable is removed. If you tick the box under the form, your browser remembers your name and email for next time.
When you send a correction
The form on the home page keeps your note, the song you name, and, only if you give it, how to reply to you. Notes are private: they are read by the people who keep this archive and are never published. Your internet address is used for one hour only, to stop the form being flooded, and is not kept with your note.
What the server records
Like every web server, this one keeps ordinary records of which pages were asked for. They are used to keep the site working, and not to build a picture of anybody.
